In this new solo exhibition, Michael Finch invites us to reinvigorate our imagination and sense of wonder. Childish Minds is a collection of reimagined objects and characters designed to spark a childlike sense of awe while reflecting societal peculiarities.
This collection looks at childhood derived from a collection of memories where the world had no limits. Anything was possible and the word “impossible” existed only to challenge the known. In the current pandemic, our world is full of restriction and caution at every turn. This makes it hard to recall the days where our greatest concern was what schoolyard game to play. Finch’s work represents a nuanced perspective reliant on an unrestricted imagination with an emphasis on play, vibrancy, and unrestricted possibilities. This collection of objects acknowledges the known while exploring the unknown, using non traditional mediums such as plastic, trash, and mud. Through an inspired transformation of his mediums and a play-like construction, Finch has created a toy box of absurdity. Explore a world of creative freedom, expression, and vitality that provides us with a relief from the world we know and step into the grandeur of a Childish Mind.
